Building your own web site is not difficult if you educate yourself on the proper steps.  There are several ways in which to build your web site. The following tips will help you to get that web site off and running on the right foot.

A web site is the first step in creating an online business presence. The basic items you will need to create a site are a domain name, web hosting, and site building software. Choose and research these carefully. You will want to make certain the web site you create is top quality and easy for visitors to navigate.

Domain name - Your domain name will be whatever name you have chosen for your business or web site ending with .com, .net, .biz, etc.  Your domain name will be the thing that identifies you to the public, so choose carefully.  You will want a professional domain name that relates to your line of business. If you need more help choosing a domain name, you can find more details in online articles and websites. A very good resource for this is Entrepreneur.com.

Web hosting - When a company hosts your web site, it is located on their server.  This means that they are responsible for keeping your site up and running.  You will still be responsible for the content and promotion of your web site and business, but your host will keep your site functioning and available to internet traffic. Many web hosting services offer two basic types of hosting, Windows and Linux. Which you choose is not dependent on what operating system you have on your home computer. You can have Windows on your computer and still opt for a Linux platform for your website or vice versa.

Software - To build your web site, you will need to use site building software, either purchased by you or offered by your host company. You also have the option to pay someone else to build your site for you.  FrontPage is a great web site builder, although retired from Microsoft support. Microsoft also has Expression Web in which to build your web site. Many web designers prefer to use Dreamweaver. WordPress is also popular software, which is free and easy-to-use. It can be used for blogs or as a more formal content management system.

There are many web site builders, web hosting companies, and places to register your domain. My personal favorite and the one I use is Internet Based Family. You can purchase your domain name, hosting package, and their website builder in one location, Internet Based Family Easy Website Builder. Their technical support, should you need it, is outstanding.

After you have created a web site, it is time to begin to add content to the page. You have several options in this regard, as well. You may create the content yourself or hire someone to help you. Regardless of the route you choose, your content, sometimes called articles, will need to be relative to your clients. Keywords or target words are an important aspect of your articles. These words serve to drive traffic to your site and help its ranking in search engines.  The higher your ranking, the more likely people are to see and visit your website.

As you can see, a little research and effort are all it takes to build and operate your own web site. Choose your topics carefully, and enjoy the process. The fruits of your labors should soon be visible.
